BANGLES – Walk Like An Egyptian – 1986
Τέσσερα χρόνια μετά την εμφάνιση των Go – Go’s ένα άλλο γυναικείο συγκρότημα έκανε την εμφάνιση του στην μουσική σκηνή του Los Angeles. Ηταν το συγκρότημα των Bangles που δημιουργήθηκε απο τις αδελφές Vicky ( κιθάρα )και Debbi Paterson ( ντράμς ) οι οποίες αναζητούσαν κοπέλες μουσικούς για την δημιουργία συγκροτήματος με επιρροές απο Beatles, Byrds και Buffalo Springfield. Ενα μήνα μετά την δολοφονία του John Lennon, και την προσθήκη στο συγκρότημα της Susanna Hoffs (κιθάρα ) και της Michael Steel ( μπάσο ) το συγκρότημα εμφανίστηκε με το όνομα Colours, στην συνέχεια μετονομάστηκε σε Supersonic Bangs, μετά Bangs και τέλος Bangles.Το τραγούδι Walk Like An Egyptian γράφτηκε απο τον αμερικανό στιχουργό και παραγωγό, Liam Sternberg. Ο Liam επνεύστηκε για πρώτη φορά τον τίτλο όταν πέρναγε με ενα φέρι-μπόουτ το κανάλι της Μάγχης. Εγραψε την φράση σε ενα σημειωματάριο και στην επιστροφή του στο Los Angeles, ηχογράφησε μια πρόχειρη εκδοχή του τραγουδιού. Ο Liam έστειλε μια κασέτα με δύο τραγούδια, όπου το ένα ήταν το Walk Like An Egyptian, στον παραγωγό των Bangles, ο οποίος είδε στο τραγούδι την επιτυχία και το συμπεριέλαβε στον δίσκο του συγκροτήματος ‘’Different Light’’. Το τραγούδι πήγε κατευθείαν στην πρώτη θέση στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες.
Four years after the appearance of the Go – Go’s, another female band made its appearance on the Los Angeles music scene. It was the Bangles, formed by sisters Vicky (guitar) and Debbi Paterson (drums) who were looking for young musicians to create a band with influences from the Beatles, Byrds and Buffalo Springfield. A month after the assassination of John Lennon, and with the addition of Susanna Hoffs (guitar) and Michael Steel (bass), the band appeared as Colors, then renamed Supersonic Bangs, then Bangs and finally Bangles. Walk Like An Egyptian was written by American lyricist and producer Liam Sternberg. Liam was first inspired for the title when he crossed the English Channel by ferry. He wrote the phrase in a notebook and on his return to Los Angeles, recorded a rough version of the song. Liam sent a cassette with two songs, one of which was Walk Like An Egyptian, to the Bangles producer, who recognised the song’s potential and included it on the band’s “Different Light” album. The song went straight to number one in the United States.
