BLONDIE – Heart Of Glass – 1979

Το συγκρότημα των Blondie δημιουργήθηκε το 1974 στην Νέα Υόρκη με την εντυπωσιακή ξανθιά Debbie Harry στην σύνθεση τους, που πρίν απο αυτούς ήταν στο συγκρότημα των Wind In The Willows όπου δεν κατάφεραν να κάνουν κάτι αξιόλογο. Το συγκρότημα κινήθηκε σε New Wave μουσικά μονοπάτια δηλώνοντας ανοιχτά ότι δεν συμπαθούσαν ιδιαίτερα την εμπορική επιτυχία. Οταν λοιπόν το Heart Of Glass έγινε παγκόσμια επιτυχία η Debbie Harry που είχε γράψει τους στίχους δήλωσε ότι το μόνο ευχάριστο της υπόθεσης είναι ότι μέσω της επιτυχίας του τραγουδιού θα κέρδιζε το New Wave γενικότερα. Το τραγούδι όταν κυκλοφόρησε σαν single πολλοί ραδιοφωνικοί σταθμοί δεν το αναμεταδίδαν λόγω των προκλητικών στίχων του που έλεγαν σε κάποιο σημείο ‘’Once I Had A Love and It Was a Gas/Soon Turned Out to Be a Pain in The Ass’’ Παρόλα αυτά το τραγούδι βρέθηκε στην κορυφή σε Αγγλία και Αμερική.

Blondie was formed in 1974 in New York with the stunning blonde Debbie Harry in their lineup, formerly of the unsuccessful band Wind In The Willows. The band focused on a New Wave sound, openly stating they did not care for commercial success. So when Heart Of Glass became a worldwide hit, Debbie Harry, who wrote the lyrics, said that the only good thing about it was that through the success of the song, New Wave music in general would win. When the song was released as a single, many radio stations refused to play it due to its provocative lyrics such as ” Once I Had A Love and It Was a Gas / Soon Turned Out to Be a Pain in The Ass ”. Despite lack of airplay the song reached the top of the charts in England and America.
