VAN HALEN - Jump - 1984

Απο το 1978 που πρωτοεμφανίστηκαν, μέχρι την ημέρα που ο GeneSimmons των Kiss τους σύστησε στην Warner Music, το συγκρότημα των αδελφών Van Halen θεωρείτε ενα απο τα κορυφαία συγκροτήματα του σκληρού ρόκ. Το 1984 κυκλοφόρησαν τον τελευταίο και πιο εμπορικό δίσκο τους, το ‘’1984’’με τραγουδιστή τον David Lee Roth. Σε αυτό τον δίσκο υπήρχε και το τραγούδι Jump του οποίου την μουσική έγραψε ο Eddy Van Halen και χρειάστηκαν 2 χρόνια για να πείσει τον David Lee Roth να γράψει τους στίχους. Οι στίχοι γράφτηκαν μέσα σε μια ημέρα απο τον David, ο οποίος τους έγραψε ενώ έκανε βόλτα με το αυτοκίνητο παρέα με ενα φίλο του. Με αρκετά στοιχεία απο το Won’t Get Fooled Again των Who, το Jump είναι μια εξελιγμένη μορφή Heavy Metal. Υπάρχει βέβαια το κλασικό σόλο του Eddy Van Halen αλλά σημαντικό ρόλο παίζει και το όργανο, κάτι που δεν συνηθιζόταν στους δίσκους του μετταλικού ρόκ.

From their debut in 1978 until the day Gene Simmons of Kiss introduced them to Warner Music, the Van Halen brothers’ band is considered one of the top hard rock bands in history. In 1984 they released their last and most commercial album, “1984” with singer David Lee Roth. This album also included the song Jump, composed by Eddy Van Halen but then took 2 years to convince David Lee Roth to write the lyrics. The lyrics were written in one day by David, while driving with a friend. With several elements from The Who’s Won’t Get Fooled Again, Jump is an advanced form of Heavy Metal. There is of course the classic solo of Eddy Van Halen but the keyboard also plays an important role, something that was not common on hard rock records.
