FOREIGNER – I Want To Know What Love Is – 1984

Χωρίς να καταφέρουν ποτέ να γίνουν ιδιαίτερα αγαπητοί στους μουσικοκριτικούς, οι Foreigner αγαπήθηκαν πολύ απο το μουσικό κοινό με αποτέλεσμα οι δίσκοι τους να γίνουν πολλές φορές χρυσοί. Δημιουργήθηκαν το 1976 στη Νέα Υόρκη και ήταν ένα κράμα Αγγλων και Αμερικάνων μουσικών. Οπως συνήθιζαν στις τελευταίες τους ηχογραφήσεις να καλούν τραγουδιστές απο άλλους χώρους για να ερμηνεύσουν τραγούδια τους, έτσι και στο I Want To Know What Love Is, καλέσανε την τραγουδίστρια του θεατρικού Dream Girls, Jennifer Hollidayκαι τον τραγουδιστή των Thompson Twins, Tom Bailey για να κάνουν φωνητικά. Παράλληλα συμμετείχε και η χορωδία του New Jersey Mass, δίνοντας μια πιο soul χροιά στο τραγούδι. Το τραγούδι έγινε μια απο τις μεγαλύτερες επιτυχίες του συγκροτήματος.

Without ever being particularly popular with music critics, Foreigner were much loved by the music public, resulting in their records regularly being certified gold. Forming in 1976 in New York, the band was a mix of English and American musicians. In later recordings the band used guest singers to perform with them, so in I Want To Know What Love Is, they invited Dream Girls theatrical singer Jennifer Holliday and Thompson Twins singer Tom Bailey to do vocals. The New Jersey Mass choir also participated, giving a more soulful tone to the song. The song became one of the band’s biggest hits.
